From applicant to accountant

Barnes Roffe provides and pays for all of your courses and examinations whilst with us, with extensive support and resources to help you on your journey.

ACA Qualification

As a trainee chartered accountant, you will need to study for your ACA exams. These are comprised of fifteen exams over the course of three years.

You will be focusing primarily on audit work and spending a lot of your time out of the office visiting clients. The ACA exams are hard work, mainly for the volume of knowledge you will need to retain and be tested on over this period of time. However, it is highly rewarding and will land you an evergreen career. During this time you will attend college, be given paid study leave and receive plenty of support from us.

CTA Qualification

If you are joining the trainee tax accountant programme, you will also be required to undertake your CTA exams as well as your ACA exams. There are a total of sixteen exams to complete, including four tax papers and two computer based examinations.

Your work will also include all areas of taxation, VAT, trusts and estates, with additional time spent at college to study for your CTA.

Qualified Accountant

The good news is that if you stay on track you will be a fully qualified ACA accountant three years later!

All of your hard work will have paid off, landing you a rewarding and progressive future in accountancy.

Your first week here will be comprised of an intensive induction. You, along with your fellow cohort of graduates, will start together in your chosen office. Following this, you will be sent to college to start off your qualification.

anti-money laundering training
database training
a bookkeeping course
ICAEW paperwork
various other induction events

Our induction week helps you go through all the technical bits of joining our company, but also gives you the opportunity to meet your fellow graduates, get to know the office, meet the staff and understand the various departments before you get stuck in.

The graduate lunch

To welcome you to the team, Barnes Roffe hosts an annual graduate lunch in central London at the end of your induction week. This includes not just you and your office cohort, but the whole graduate intake across all of the London offices. This gives you a great opportunity to relax, get to know your colleagues and make friends. Its a big warm welcome to our company!

I joined Barnes Roffe as a graduate trainee in 2009. After becoming qualified, I progressed from Audit Senior to Audit Manager in 2015, then in 2023 I was promoted to Partner.
